As a kid, what did you look forward to most about summer vacation/break/holiday?

I looked forward to

- sleeping in
- having loads of time to read
- visits from my penpal Sabine (yeah, same name) who lived in the Black Forest.

Award

Kim gave me this award, which took me totally by surprise. I feel very honored and think that soo cool, thanks, Kim! I’m going to award this to three of my many creative blogger friends: Cristiana, Ingrid and Ulrike. I could go on and on and name soo many other creative bloggers who deserve this award.

Apart from this, not much has happened over here. I am frantically reading The Book Thief, because I'll have to return it to the library tomorrow. It is a very very good read and I think about adding it to my library.

The knitting daily newsletter today announced the new Interweave Crochet and led me to their online shop. I found a beautiful cardigan by Annie Modesitt, however, you cannot pay via paypal. How annoying.

Kim hat mir den Kreativblogger Award verliehen. Das kam völlig überraschend und hat mich sehr gefreut. Aus der Menge an vielen Bloggern, die diesen Award auch verdienen, verleihe ich ihn an folgende drei Blogs: Cristiana, Ingrid und Ulrike.

Ansonsten passiert hier gerade nicht viel, da ich versuche Die Bücherdiebin fertig zu lesen, denn das Buch muß morgen abgegeben werden. Allerdings überlege ich, ob ich es nicht doch kaufen soll, so gut finde ich es.

Der knitting daily newsletter macht heute auf die neue Crochet aufmerksam und hat mich verleitet einen Blick auf die Crochet Gallerie zu werfen. Fast hätte ich schon die Anleitung für eine hübsche Häkeljacke von Annie Modesitt gekauft, da mußte ich feststellen, dass man nicht per paypal bezahlen kann. Ärgerlich.

New Books

At the end of last month we flew to Cologne for the wedding of my husband's youngest sister. She was such a beautiful bride and we had a great time. I enjoyed it very much to meet all of my husband's family, because I have the best sisters and brothers in law one can imagine. They are all such lovely people, and I miss them very much throughout the year in Berlin.

Ende Mai flogen wir nach Köln zur Hochzeit einer Schwester meines Mannes. Sie war eine zauberhafte Braut und es war ein tolles Fest. Ich genoß es vor allem meine Schwäger und Schwägerinnen zu treffen, die ich während des Jahres in Berlin sehr vermisse, da sie so liebenswerte und phantastische Menschen sind.

One of my sisters has an M.A. in Japanese and earlier this year she met a friend in Japan and bought these treasures for me (I bet you no longer doubt that I have the best in laws imaginable :-)):

Eine meiner angeheirateten Schwestern hat einen M.A. in Japanolgie und mir von ihrem letzten Besuch in Japan diese Schätze mitgebracht (;-) noch Zweifel daran, dass ich die beste Schwägerin der Welt habe?):




The pattern book is even better than I expected from what I had seen on the net. And the Fair Isle book is by the desinger who wrote New Heirloom, a master of his art.

Das Musterbuch ist noch besser, als ich nach allem was ich im www gesehen habe, gedacht habe.
Das Fair Isle Buch ist vom Meister-Designer, der auch schon das Heirloom Buch geschrieben hat.


These cuties will help me to understand Japanese knitting and crocheting symbols. There are crochet stitches in that orange book, I didn't know before (I am not a great crocheter, only very basic knowledge).

Diese zwei süßen Büchlein helfen mir in Zukunft Strick- und Häkelschriften zu entziffern. Für mich rudimentär Häklerin hält das Orange noch eine ganze Menge neuer Häkelmaschen bereit.

I found these two mags at the station in Cologne and couldn't resist, although the baby mag will only be used for dear in-laws and friends. ;-)

Und am Bahnhof in Köln fand ich dann noch diese zwei Zeitschriften, denen ich nicht widerstehen konnte. Obgleich das Babyheft nur für liebe Schwägerinnen und Freunde zum Einsatz kommen wird. ;-)

Zimmermann Jäckchen

Finally, I have pics of a finished item. This is the baby cardigan from Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac. I followed the instructions straight without problems and just a small alteration; I knit the sleeves in the round. The pattern for the cap can be found on Knitting Daily. I have done it a couple of times before and I still enjoy knitting it.

Endlich habe ich mal wieder Fotos von einem fertigen Stück. Das ist die Babyjacke aus Elizabeth Zimmermanns Knitter's Almanac. Ich bin der Anleitung mit nur einer kleinen Änderung gefolgt: Die Ärmel habe ich rundgestrickt, statt sie hinterher zusammenzunähen. Das Jäckchen war schnell an einem Wochenende gestrickt und lag dann, weil ich erst noch Knöpfe kaufen mußte bzw. genau diese Blümchenknöpfe wollte und sie in meinem üblichen Knopfladen ausverkauft waren.

Das Mützchen ist noch einmal der Vine Lace Babyhat von Sandi Wiseheart. Die Anleitung gibt es kostenlos bei Knitting Daily.
