Kyndra Scarf

Remember the yarn my first Secret Pal sent me? Not only did I knit the mittens for my mother from it, but also this wavy scarf. I really love the colors Kyndra chose, especially for this grey time of the year.

Here is my variation of this common pattern:

Yarn: sock yarn or slighlty thicker yarn. Needle size: 5 mm.

Cast on 30 sts. Knit 3 rows.

Row 1: k 8 , *2yo-k1-3yo-k1-4yo-k1-3yo-k1-2yo-k1*, k5, *2yo-k1-3yo-k1-4yo-k1-3yo-k1-2yo-k1*, k8.

Row 2-4: knit (yo are knit as 1 stitch)

Row 5: k2, *2yo-k1-3yo-k1-4yo-k1-3yo-k1-2yo-k1*, k5, *2yo-k1-3yo-k1-4yo-k1-3yo-k1-2yo-k1*, k5, *2yo-k1-3yo-k1-4yo-k1-3yo-k1-2yo-k1*, k3.

Row 6 – 8: knit (yo are knit as 1 stitch)

End knitting 3 rows. Bind off all sts. Weave in loose ends.

Erinnert ihr euch an die Wolle, die ich von meinem ersten Secret Pal bekam? Nicht nur die Handschuhe für meine Mutter habe ich daraus gestrickt, sondern auch diesen Schal, der Farbe in diese graue Jahreszeit bringt.

Hier ist meine Variante, dieses bekannten Musters:

Wolle: Sockenwolle oder etwas dickeres Garn, Nadelstärke: 5 mm

30 M anschlagen, 3 R kraus rechts stricken. Folgende 8 R wiederholen, bis die gewünschte Länge erreicht ist:

Reihe 1: 8 r, *2U-1r-3U-1r-4U-1r-3U-1r-2U-1r*, r5, *2U-1r-3U-1r-4U-1r-3U-1r-2U-1r*, 8r.

Reihe 2-4: rechts (U als 1 M stricken)

Reihe 5: r2, *2U-1r-3U-1r-4U-1r-3U-1r-2U-1r*, 5r, *2U-1r-3U-1r-4U-1r-3U-1r-2U-1r*, 5r, *2U-1r-3U-1r-4U-1r-3U-1r-2U-1r*, 3 r.

Reihe 6 – 8: rechts (U als 1 M stricken).

Zum Abschluß 3 Reihen kraus rechts arbeiten, abketten. Fäden vernähen.

Seraphim

And on we go with the show of FOs from 2007.

I had finished knitting the Seraphim shawl some time before Christmas, but had not time to block it. Finally, the week between Christmas and the New Year, I managed to block it and – as usual – it gained from the process. Although it was very nice before.

I knit this from Knitwitches Yarns Cashmere that Ingrid gave me for my birthday. Midway, I was afraid it would become too short, because I had picked up the 3.25 mm needles instead of the 3.75 mm needles when I started to knit the shawl. Now, the pattern states 3.75 mm and probably I would have obtained the right gauge with it. As it was, I needed more rows to the inch than stated in the pattern. Therefore, I worked an additional 60 rows of stockinette before starting the lace pattern. As I feared, I ran out of yarn, before I had finished the lace pattern. It is only 5 rows shorter. I didn’t want to work those in another yarn and I don’t really think that this Seraphim is less beautiful for the missing five rows.

The Seraphim was a lovely, well written pattern which I think especially suited for the cashmere yarn, because the stockinette part keeps all the warmth and softness of the cashmere. If you use a 3.75 mm needle and do not add 60 rows of stockinette, but follow straight Melanie’s instructions, then one skein of Knitwitches Cashmere is enough for this shawl.

It certainly wasn’t the last item I knit from a Melanie Felton pattern.

Und weiter geht es mit den fertigen Sachen aus 2007.

Ich war schon einige Zeit vor Weihnachten mit dem Seraphim fertig geworden, aber hatte keine Zeit zum Spannen gefunden. Schließlich war es soweit in der Woche zwischen den Jahren. (Ich frage mich immer, warum nur diese Woche zwischen den Jahren liegt, was ist denn mit den anderen 51? Bilden die das Jahr?) W

Wie immer hat das Tuch durch das Spannen noch mal an Schönheit gewonnen.

Gestrickt habe ich aus Knitwitches Cashmere, die ich von Ingrid zum Geburtstag bekam. Da ich versehentlich statt der 3.75 mm die 3.25 mm Nadel verwendet habe, hatte ich zwischendurch Angst, das Tuch könnte zu kurz werden. Daher habe ich einfach 60 Reihen mehr im glatt rechts Teil gestrickt. Wie befürchtet, hat die Wolle dann nicht ganz für den Ajourteil gereicht, so dass dieser nun 5 Reihen zu kurz ist. Ich finde aber, das tut dem Tuch keinen Abbruch.

Der Seraphim erscheint mir ein besonders für die Cashmerewolle geeignetes Muster zu sein, da der glatte Teil die Wärme und Weichheit des Garns bewahrt. Für mich besticht das Tuch durch seine Simplizität und Schönheit.

Wenn ihr übrigens genau der Anleitung von Melanie folgt, dann reicht ein Knäuel der Knitwitches Cashmere für das ganze Tuch.

Wie beim Icarus, war auch hier die Anleitung sehr gut verständlich und die charts sehr übersichtlich gestaltet. Dies war sicher nicht mein letztes Strickstück nach einer Anleitung von Melanie Felton.

Twitsted Stitch Gauntlets

My friend Ingrid has a very good eye for special patterns. I would certainly have overlooked these gauntlets, had it not been for her. When I stayed with her in October, she drew my attention to them and I immediately decided to knit them for her for Christmas. I would have loved to use the original yarn, but it was not available in the color of my choice: aubergine. My beloved lifestyle merino by atelier zitron had the color I was looking for.

When I had done about 1/3 of the first glove, I nearly frogged it. I didn’t like the look of it at all. However, since it was a present, I kept on working and tried the glove on, when I had done about half of the palm. And, wonder oh wonder, the glove was stunning!!! Everything made sense and just looked magnificent. I kept on working and the next time I went to my LYS, I bought 3 balls of the lifestyle in red to knit myself a pair, too.

Yarn: 3 balls of Lifestyle merino extrafine by atelier zitron (you need about 60 g for one glove)

Needle size: 3.5 mm and 3.25 mm

Meine Freundin Ingrid hat ein sehr gutes Auge für schöne Strickmuster. Ich hätte diese Fingerhandschuhe sicher wieder übersehen. Als ich im Oktober bei Ingrid war und wir zusammen die Holiday Knits anschauten, da gefielen ihr diese Handschuhe besonders gut und ich beschloß sogleich, sie ihr zu Weihnachten zu stricken. Ich hätte gern das Originalgarn verwendet, aber das gab es hier nur in Pasteltönen. Ihre Lieblingsfarbe ist aber aubergine und so entschied ich mich für eines meiner Lieblingsgarne: Lifestyle merino extrafein von atelier zitron.

Als ich ca. 1/3 des ersten Hanschuhs hatte, war ich schon drauf und dran alles wieder aufzurippeln, weil es mir gar nicht gefiel. Aber es sollte ja ein Geschenk werden. Also strickte ich weiter und siehe da, als die Handfläche ca. zur Hälfte gestrickt war und ich den Handschuh noch mal anprobierte, da sah das phantastisch aus. Plötzlich ergab es einen Sinn und hatte Form. Das Ergebnis gefiel mir so gut, dass ich mir nun auch noch so ein Paar in rot stricke!!!

Stitch 'n Bitch

Im November fand hier ein einmaliges Treffen dieser Strick-Schaf-Hunde statt. Wie man sieht, waren sie eifrig damit beschäftigt für Weihnachten noch schnell ein paar Schals zu nadeln. Ob diese rechtzeitig fertig geworden sind, entzieht sich leider meiner Kenntnis, da die Teilnehmer sich direkt im Anschluss an dieses Foto auf die Reise zu unterschiedlichen Orten auf unserem Globus begaben.

Wer sein Glück selbst versuchen will und den Tierchen ein schafigeres Aussehen verleihen möchte – meine sind zugegebenermaßen eine Mischung aus Hund, Schaf und Elch. (Noch jemand Vorschläge? ) – der findet hier die kostenlose Anleitung sowie eine Galerie weiterer Schafe.

Nur einem Schäfle gefiel es so gut bei mir, dass es hier geblieben ist.

Meine Kinder und ich haben uns heute im Kino diesen poetischen Film angeschaut.

In November an exceptional and singular meeting of these Knitting-Sheep-dogs took place at my apartment. As you can see the members of this Stitch ‘n Bitch group were frantically working away on scarves for Christmas. Alas, I have no knowledge of the outcome of this undertaking as the members of this group all set out to various places on the globe after the photo had been taken in memory of this special event.

Wooly Christmas Goodies

I can hardly believe, that it is already 2008!!! December was plain crazy for me and I know for a great number of other people, too. I didn't blog because I neither had the time nor the mental or physical strength for it. I was just plainly worn out, mainly by my office job... It has taken me quite a long time to recover, but I start feeling like myself again. It has certainly helped that my husband has taken the kids to the swimhall every second day to provide me with free time for Yoga practice. For me, Yoga is the best means to find my inner balance again.

So, here I am again full of knitting energy to be spilt into 2008. These Christmas goodies certainly will help to channel that energy.

One skein of my favourite sock yarn: Wollmeise in a colorway I didn't posess before, although it is a combination of reds: Red Hot Chili. THANK YOU C.!



One of my knitting buddies surprised me with these two skeins of K. Fassett Regia Sock Yarn. How did you know I was lusting after it? Great, great, great - seems as if I'll knit socks this year (what with the Socks that Rock yarn from Sherilyn... and the Casbah I bought at Ally Pally...)



I bought myself the Book of Yarn for mere "study purposes" ;-)




My secret pal 10 Ingrid sent me this beautiful corsage, a flowery hair thing for my daughter and two of these cute corknissen for my son. Thank you so much Ingrid. We love them.



And last but not least, the wonderful, very talented Ulrike knit this scarf for me in just the perfect non-red color. Ulrike you rock!

As I said before, December was a rather dreadful month and I did not knit a lot (I was glad I managed to finish the last two Christmas presents on time, after I had done most of them in November). Due to the fact, that December was a rather unsuccessful month knitwise, I took more WiPs into 2008 then I had hoped:

1. Juno Regina (originally planned as a Christmas present, I had to abandon the plan as chart 3 was very obstructive).

2. Mystery Stole (I have started the second half and done 100 rows on it)

3. Lacy Waves Top (body up to the armholes, 2/3 of first sleeve knit)

4. Bloomsbury scarf (Sample for Knitwitches Yarns, blocking.)

Old WiPs (i.e. brought into 2007!!!)

1. Kells (no progress on this one in 2007. Hope to finish it by mid-2008)

2. Crochet cardigan (I have started to crochet together the single flowers and have done approx. 100 - 150 already. Envisaged completion: April 2008)

3. Starmore afghan (no progress in 2007. Hope to knit final 4 patches this month)

4. Diamond upon Diamond (will please someone come around and order the yarn for me? )

5. Mondnacht stole (I'd hardly call this a WiP as I have only done approx. 10 cm of the border so far)

Ich kann kaum glauben, dass schon 2008 ist!!! Der Dezember war ein ziemlich schrecklicher Monat - nicht nur für mich. Ich war physisch und geistig total erschöpft und es hat ziemlich lange gedauert, bis ich das Gefühl hatte mich zu erholen. Tatsächlich aber stellt sich langsam wieder ein Ich-Gefühl ein. Sehr dabei hat mir mal wieder Yoga geholfen, dass ich etwa jeden 2. Tag die letzten 10 Tage praktiziert habe. In der Alltagshektik komme ich meistens nicht zu mehr als meinem wöchentlichen Kurs, dabei hilft mir nichts so sehr die innere Balance zu halten und "cool zu bleiben" auch in Streßsituationen.

Hier bin ich nun also mit neuer Energie für neue und alte Strickprojekte und meine wunderbaren Weihnachtsgeschenke werden dabei sicher helfen:



Ein Strang meiner Lieblingssockenwolle: Wollmeise Red Hot Chilli, diese Farbkombination hatte ich bislang noch nicht, obwohl es Rottöne sind. VIELEN DANK C.!

Eine meiner Strickfreundinnen überraschte mich mit 2 Knäuel Regia K. Fassett Sockenwolle. Um die war ich schon lang herumgeschlichen. VIELEN VIELEN DANK.

Sieht so aus, als würde ich 2008 Socken stricken.

Rein zu "Studienzwecken" habe ich mir das Book of Yarn geleistet und für neue Anregung sorgt die Verlängerung meines Vogue Abos (lieben Dank M.)

Mein Secret Pal 10 Ingrid hat die ganze Familie mit selbstgemachten Geschenken überrascht, einen Blumenanstecker für mich, ein Haargummi für meine Tochter und Korknissen für meinen Sohn. Vielen Dank Ingrid, wir lieben die Sachen.

Und die wunderbare, außergewöhnliche Ulrike hat mich mit diesem wunderschönen Schal in der schlichtweg perfekten Farbe beglückt.

Apology

I owe an apology to both my Secret Pals from round 11 who have spoilt me rotten last month.

I received two parcels within a day from both Sherilyn and Cristiana containing such marvelous things.

Sherilyn had noticed that I love to read and comment on books and surprised me with this wonderful book lust book where I can enter my notes, wish lists etc. I am so happy with it.

I love the bookmark she enclosed: S for strength. I’ll try to remember this as a motto for 2008.

To keep my hands warm, she knitted a pair of mitts for me! Thank you Sherylin, I indeed suffer very often from cold hands. Not any more.

And finally, there was a skein of Socks that Rock Yarn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been lusting after this yarn for a long time. Thank you Sherilyn – you rock!

Cristiana’s parcel was full of small and big wonders, such as two fridge magnets with typical Italian motives, a gorgeous calendar for 2008, two wonderful Pinocchio pens for my kids, Italian sweets and cookies – oh so delicious. They are all gone by now, of course. And it didn’t stop, there were more and more goodies hidden in the carton.

A pattern she translated from Italian for me!!! Thank you, I know how much work that was.

And this wonderful Italian yarn, which I will use to knit Cristiana’s coat from the December magknits. It so happens, that I have had yarn in my stash for years which cries out to me to be knit into this coat, but I lacked a color! You must have been inspired by the knitting fairies, Cristiana for this perfect gift.

A new knitting note book for my handbag, this one a handmade marbeled book! I wonder how Cristiana knew, that I love that kind of booklets? I cannot remember having ever talked about it.

Ich schulde meinen beiden Secret Pals eine Entschuldigung dafür, dass es sooooooooo lange gedauert hat, bis ich mich endlich auf meinem blog für die herrlichen Päckchen bedank(t)e mit denen sie mich letzten Monat verwöhnten.

Fast zeitgleich bekam ich sowohl von Sherilyn als auch von Cristiana ein Päckchen mit wunderbaren Sachen geschickt.

Sherylin hatte bemerkt, dass ich sehr gerne lese und die Bücher auch gern kommentiere, damit ich in Zukunft schon beim Lesen Notizen machen kann, überraschte sie mich mit diesem wunderschönen book lust Notizbuch. Das auch Platz hat für Wunschlisten und Buchauszügen.

Dazu gab es ein Lesezeichen mit Motto: S for strength – ich werde versuchen mich daran zu erinnern.

Gegen meine ewig kalten Hände hat Sherilyn mir ein Paar mitts gestrickt. Phantastisch!

Und dann war da noch ein Knäuel Socks that Rock Wolle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Auf diese Wolle war ich schon sehr lange neugierig. Der Grünton gefällt mir ungemein gut.

Auch Cristianas Päckchen war gefüllt mir kleinen Wundern. Ein Kalender für 2008, Kühlschrankmagnete, 2 wunderschöne Pinocchiostifte, leckere Plätzchen und eine Riesendose Ferrero Rocher!!!!!!!!!! Mmmmmmmmmh – die Leckerlis sind längst aufgegessen.

An weiteren Herrlichkeiten gab es ein handmarmoriertes Notizbuch für die Handtasche. Woher Cristiana wusste, dass ich Kladen liebe und insbesonder marmorierte, weiß ich nicht. Auf jeden Fall hat sie meinen Geschmack 100 % getroffen.

Doch noch war der Inhalt des Päckchens nicht erschöpft. Sie hat außerdem eine Anleitung für mich aus dem Italienischen übersetzt und mir diese herrliche Wolle geschickt. Es trifft sich gut, denn in meinem Wollvorrat gibt es schon Wolle, die gerne in Cristianas Rainbow Coat aus der Dezember Magknits verwandelt werden möchte, aber es fehlte noch eine Farbe! Da kann es also losgehen.

Und dann habe ich heute noch was Witziges bei Anson's gesehen, wo es Männer nicht regnet, dafür aber im Schlussverkauf gibt. Wer also noch auf der Suche nach seinem Traummann ist:
