Sarcelle Stole

Isn't this beautiful? I have to admit that it was really hard to give this Sarcelle away and only could be done, because the recipient is such a dear good friend. I enjoyed knitting it from Anny Blatt kid mohair very much. I did not knit as many repeats as the pattern asks for, because I had only three balls of this yarn, but I think the length is okay.

The instructions are very straight forward and the pattern repeat is easy to memorize, so you can knit away without having to look into the pattern all the time.

I hope to knit one for myself this year.


Ist das nicht ein wunderschönes Muster? Ich gebe zu, es ist mir nicht ganz leicht gefallen diesen Sarcelle zu verschenken, aber da die Empfängerin eine so liebe Freundin ist, kam das Geschenk von Herzen.

Ich habe nicht so viele Rapporte gestrickt wie angegeben, da ich nur 3 Knäuel des Anny Blatt Kid Mohairs hatte, aber ich denke die Länge ist auch so okay.

Die Anleitung war einfach geschrieben und der Musterrapport ist sehr eingängig, so dass man vor sich hin stricken kann ohne ständig die Anleitung zu konsultieren.

Nun hoffe ich, dass ich es dieses Jahr schaffe mir auch einen Sarcelle zu stricken.

Cuffs

Remember this book? I bought it in London in September, because it includes a number of beautiful gloves, mitts and special cuff patterns. I fell in love with these long cuffs immediately:

They were made from Wollmeise "Rosenrot" and "Tiefer See".

Während meine noch auf den Nadeln sind, haben diese aus Wollmeise "Rosenrot" und "Tiefer See" hoffentlich zu Weihnachten Freude bereitet. :D

Boy's Cardigan

Since I found Helena such an easy pattern to follow, I used it for this little cardigan for my beloved nephew. Instead of yarn overs, I used the make 1 increase and avoided the holes. Approx. 10 cm after the sleeves had been seperated, I turned to brow, knitting 1 row of k1brown, k1yellow, then one row in yellow and a row of k1yellow, k1brown. The cuffs are 4 rows of garter stitch. The neck-and buttonband is again a crochet band with buttonholes.

To finish off, I embroidered a sailing ship onto the left front.

Yarn: Egyptian cotton from my stash, very lovely yarn, very good quality.



Da ich die Anleitung zur Helena so einfach fand, habe ich den Schnitt gleich für dieses Jäckchen verwendet und nur kleine Änderungen ausgeführt, z. B. statt die Zunahme durch Umschlag, habe ich die Zunahme durch Herausstricken der Masche ausgeführt. Nach ca. 10 cm ab Armloch habe ich die Farbe gewechselt. Für den Übergang habe ich folgende 3 Reihen gestrickt: 1Mgelb, 1Mbraun, 1 Reihe gelb, 1Mbraun, 1Mgelb, danach in braun weiter. Die Bündchen sind 4 Reihen kraus rechts und auch hier habe ich die Knopfblende wieder gehäkelt. Zum Schluß noch ein Segelboot aufgestickt und fertig war ein weiteres Weihnachtsgeschenk.

Die Wolle ist ägyptische Mako-Baumwolle, mercerisiert und gasiert. Ein wunderschönes Garn von sehr guter Qualität, das es leider nicht mehr gibt.

Helena

As many readers of Knitty, I thought Helena a beautiful pattern. So, when it came to Christmas knitting, I chose it for the two daughters of dear friends of us. The girls are 5 years and 6 months old, so I had to increase the pattern for the older daughter.

I tried the knit on neckband twice on the big cardigan, but both times I was displeased with it. As a consequence, I decided to do a crochet neckband, which I think fits the pattern very well.

The yarn is a very lovely cotton from my stash, which is now all gone.

Bye the way, I found the instructions very straight forward.








Wie viele Leser der Knitty, fand auch ich die Helena ein sehr schönes Muster, so dass meine Wahl darauf fiel, als ich mir überlegt, was ich den Töchtern guter Freunde zu Weihnachten stricken wollte.

Da die große schon 5 ist, mußte ich die Größe anpassen, aber das war relativ einfach. Nur die angestrickte Borte mit den Bindebändeln gefiel mir nicht. 2 x habe ich es am großen Modell versucht, bis ich mich schließlich für eine Häkelkante mit Knopflöchern entschied. Ich finde, das paßt sehr gut dazu.

Die Wolle kam aus meinem stash, ein wunderschönes Baumwollgarn, das nun leider aufgebraucht ist.

Friday Eye Candy - Fall 2008

My year of books

At the beginning of this year, I thought I would like to increase my reading and therefore, I would try to read an average of 60 pages per day and listened to an average of 1 CD per day. It wasn't always easy to achieve this goal, but finally I reached the required number early in December. Overall, I have read 100 books this year (including 17 Mangas!) and have listened to 100 audiobooks. (Those interested in the complete list, I have posted it here).

Anfang diesen Jahres habe ich mir vorgenommen mehr zu lesen, einfach weil die Bücherstapel immerzu wuchsen. Daher wollte ich versuchen im Schnitt 60 Seiten zu lesen und 1 Hörbuch-CD pro Tag zu hören. Das war nicht immer einfach, aber letztendlich habe ich es Anfang Dezember geschafft gehabt. (Wer sich für die Gesamtliste interessiert, hier ist sie).

What did I learn/experience?
Welche Erfahrung habe ich gemacht?

I enjoyed reading so many novels and I want to go on next year, but reduce the average to 30 pages.

Ich habe es sehr genossen so viel zu lesen, aber fürs nächste Jahr reduziere ich den Durchschnitt auf 30 Seiten, um noch Zeit für was anderes zu haben. :D

The more you read, the more you want to read and the longer your list of "books to read" gets.

Je mehr man liest, umso mehr will man lesen.

I met a few nice people in online book clubs, participated in a couple of very interesting book swaps and discovered new authors. I joined a reading group in Berlin and read two books, I would not have read otherwise. The discussions were very interesting.

Ich habe einige nette neue Leute kennengelernt in online Leseclubs, aber auch hier in Berlin. Ich habe an ein paar Buchtauschen teilgenommen und so neue Autoren entdeckt. Außerdem Bücher außerhalb meines üblichen Leseverhaltens gelesen und die Diskussionen darüber waren sehr hilfreich.

I didn't watch a lot TV as I'd rather sit on my Sofa and listen to a book while knitting. I didn't miss TV, but I have no clue about the latest soaps! :D

Ich habe kaum fern gesehen, es aber auch nicht vermisst. Was aktuelle Soaps angeht, bin ich ein völlig unbeschriebenes Blatt...

Sometimes, I wanted to read a book because it was new or recommended on a TV show (yeah, I watched those), it wasn't always worth the while. Therefore, for the year to come, I have decided to wait for a new book to be available in the library and then see whether I still want to read it. In addition, I'll take a friend's advice and abandon a book after the first 60 pages, if I do not like it.

Manchmal wollte ich ein Buch nur deshalb lesen, weil es neu war oder bei Lesen empfohlen wurde. Nicht immer war es die investierte Zeit wert. Daher will ich im neuen Jahr lieber auf die Bibliothek warten und sehen, ob ich das Buch dann immer noch interessant finde. Außerdem werde ich mir den Rat einer Freundin zu Herzen nehmen und ein Buch nach 60 Seiten zur Seite legen, wenn es mir bis dahin nicht gefällt.

To reduce the amount of unread books on my shelf - which once were new and I was so eager to read, but then didn't - I have decided to only buy a new book after having read three from the shelf.

Um die immer noch große Zahl ungelesener Bücher in meinem Regal zu reduzieren, habe ich mir fürs nächste Jahr vorgenommen, mir erst dann ein neues zu kaufen, wenn ich 3 vom Regal gelesen habe.
