Geburtstag

My birthday took place again two months ago and I still have not shown you my lovely presents! I have decided to finally go ahead with although one beautiful cone of laceyarn is missing on the picture. You will just have to wait for the finished project to see that gorgeous green.

Mein Geburtstag ist ja nun doch schon eine gute Weile her und ich will endlich mal einen Teil meienr Geschenke zeigen, auch wenn ein wunderschönes grünes Lacegarn auf dem Foto fehlt. Da müßt ihr wohl aufs fertige Modell warten. ;D Sobald ich mit den Weihnachtsgeschenken fertig bin, werde ich mich an diese wunderschönen Garne wagen. Very handy are these boxes. You can either transport nuts, apples or stitch markers etc in them. Their motives will always cheer me up.

Of course, my friends and family did not forget to give me some reading material too. I have read all but one of the books I received for my birthday and very much recommend Daphne DuMaurier, The Frenchman's Creek - I haven't read such a compelling, cozy adventure in a long time. Very different, but another excellent read was Rona Tearne's The Swimmer.
Natürlich gab es auch noch "richtigen" Lesestoff zum Geburtstag. Sehr zu empfehlen:Daphne DuMaurier, The Frenchman's Creek und Rona Tearne's The Swimmer.

Frilly Sleeves

This extraordinary sweater has been finished for quite a while. However, except for the photo, I have not been wearing it. It is made of 100 % silk and I have discovered while working on it, that I am allergic to silk yarn! Thus, my dear friend J. is now the happy owner of this marvel.

Dieser ungewöhnliche Pulli ist nun auch schon einige Zeit fertig. Leider mußte ich während des Strickens feststellen, dass ich gegen das Seidengarn allergisch bin. Daher hat meine Freundin J. diesen Pulli nach den Photoshooting "geerbt".

Autumn Swap

Look what a wonderful parcel I received in the Ravelry book group's autumn swap.

4 patterns for lace shawls accompanied by the thinnest red merino lace yarn. I love the yarn. I fancy doing one of the Greta Garbo ones from the Haapsalu book.

And a most intriguing novel. I have only read one book by Geraldine Brooks so far, although I have always meant to read more. It came with a very lovely bookmark, two funny buttons that make one smile, postcards from Kansas (yes, Toto), a pin from Kansas and a lovely greeting card. If I need to relax after all the lace knitting, I can take a bath with passion fruit.

The pencils and post its almost disappeared in my children’s school bags. They love them, but so do I. :D The pencils are quite extraordinary. They look like pencils you have to sharpen, but they are not!

And last but not least, American chocolates!. We love chocolate and chocolate bars tasting like peanut, but they are rare over here. I have never seen Dove peanut, only caramel. Neither can we get butterfingers or Hershey chocolate.

Die Ravelry Book Group hat mal wieder einen Swap veranstaltet und ein Päckchen mit diesen sehr netten Sächelchen ist letzte Woche bei mir angekommen.

4 Anleitungen für Tücher und ganz feines Lacegarn in einem wunderschönen Rot. Der Strang läuft über 1400 m und mir schwebt vor daraus einen Greta Garbo Schal nach dem Haapsalu Buch zu machen. (Ja, obwohl die Rückreihen mit Nupps wirklich anstrengend sind, habe ich noch nicht genug davon :D).

Ein Roman von Geraldine Brooks, der sich sehr spannend anhört und von der ich längst schon mal wieder was lesen wollte. Außerdem ein schönes Lesezeichen, Postkarten und einen Pin aus Kansas, Knöpfe und Passionsfruchtbadezusatz.

Die Bleistifte und Post its hätten meine Kinder am liebsten gleich für sich beansprucht, aber gerade die Bleistifte haben es mir sehr angetan. Sie sehen aus wie ganz normale Bleistifte, sind aber tatsächlich Druckbleistifte!

Und Schokolade, sowieso wenn sie nach Erdnüssen schmeckt, ist hier immer willkommen. Dove Erdnuß hatte ich noch nirgends gesehen, nur Caramel. Beides sehr lecker.

Crown Prince Square Shawl

Here is my shawl No 9. It is the Crown Prince Square Shawl from Knitted Lace from Estonia. I cast on in February, so this project has been with me almost the entire year. It has taken a very long time to finish, in fact I think, I have never worked on a shawl for so long, however, it was worth every minute and every stitch. The result is a very delicate, very fascinating, very beautiful piece of knitting. The design is a masterpiece - not my knitting, which as so often has not been entirely flawless.

I used machine knitting yarn, which I got as a present from a friend. I think, she never expected me to use the yarn for a shawl, but rather for a machine-knit sweater (which I did, a long time ago, but there was still a lot left afterwards). I have always loved this yarn as it is so soft.

The border on this shawl is knit seperately - 2 borders of 409 sts each!!! And then it is sewn on. I do not normally like sewing by hand very much, but this method results in a very nice edge - at least on the sides. The cast on and bind off sides were trickier and I need to practice it again. ;D

Bye the way, this time, I took all the pictures. My husband has to work such long hours, that it is the blackest of dark outside when he returns home - and I could not wait til the weekend. Moreover, the sun was so lovely yesterday.

I am very happy with my shawl.




Hier ist mein Tuch Nr. 9. Es ist Crown Prince Square Shawl aus Knitted Lace from Estonia. Dieses Tuch habe ich schon im Februar angeschlagen und so hat es mich fast das ganze Jahr begleitet. In der Tat, habe ich (meine ich) noch nie für ein Tuch so lange gebraucht, aber dieses war jede Minute und jede Masche wert. Das Tuch ist ganz zart, völlig faszinierend und wunderschön. Das Design ist ein echtes Meisterwerk - leider nicht meine Strickkunst, die wie häufig nicht ganz fehlerfrei war (habe aber alles brav korrigiert).

Die Maschinenstrickwolle, die ich hierfür verwendet habe, bekam ich mal von einer Freundin geschenkt. Das daraus mal ein Tuch wird, hätte sie wohl nicht gedacht. Eigentlich war die Wolle für einen Pulli gedacht, den ich auch gestrickt habe, aber es war noch so viel übrig...und ich liebe die Weichheit dieses Garns.

Die Randspitze wird in 2 Teilen à 409 Maschen separat gestrickt und danach angenäht. Ich bin ja nicht so ein großer Fan vom Handnähen, aber diese Methode hat mir gut gefallen. Sie hat auch an den Seiten gut geklappt, nur Anschlag- und Abkettreihe waren etwas schwieriger. Auf dem Bild sieht es aber nur so gewellt aus, weil ich versucht habe das Tuch nur an ein paar Stellen am Schrank fürs Foto zu spannen.

Ach ja, ausnahmsweise sind die Fotos von mir, da mein Mann nicht vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit nach Hause kommt, und ich nicht bis zum Wochenende warten konnte.

Clothilde

Another shawl for the “10 shawls in 2010” project. This is No 8 I finished. Clothilde was a very pleasant knit, just when I started to be bored by chart 1 I was done with it and could move on to the border. Since I had ample yarn left, I did another repeat of chart 2. I love this new shawl.

Ein weiteres Tuch für das “10 Shawls in 2010” Projekt ist fertig geworden. Dies ist meine Nummer 8. Clothilde war ein sehr angenehmes Strickstück. Muster und Wolle harmonieren sehr gut. Gerade als Muster 1 begann langweilig zu werden, war ich fertig damit und konnte mit der Randspitze beginnen. Während des Strickens habe ich wiederholt den Knäuel auf die Waage gelegt, so konnte ich gefahrlos einen weiteren Rapport des Randes hinzufügen. Ich liebe mein neues Tuch.
