Rose Bud - Design process

It all started with a ball of sockyarn. The yarn was variegated, therefore unsuitable for a complex pattern, moreover I wanted to knit the socks in the car. On the other hand, I did not want to just knit plain stockinette or k3p2 socks.

Alles begann mit einem Knäuel Sockenwolle. Die Wolle war bunt, also nicht geeignet für ein aufwändiges Muster. Außerdem wollte ich die Socken im Auto stricken. Aber nur glatt rechts oder im Rippenmuster war mir auch zu langweilig.

Thus, this little stitch pattern, which I discovered as a side-pattern to more complex patterns in the Japanase Stitch Collection, but which they seem not to regard as worthy to stand alone, came in very handy. When I looked at it, it reminded me of a lane of little rose buds. The name for the socks was born.

Da entdeckte ich dieses kleine Muster in der berühmten japanischen Mustersammlung. Dort kommt es nur in Kombination mit anderen Mustern vor. Es führt dort sozusagen ein Schattendasein. Als ich es mir genauer anschaute, fand ich es sieht aus wie eine lange Reihe von Rosenknopsen, der Name für die Socken war gefunden.

I enjoyed knitting it so much, that I wanted to use it again. That was the moment, I had the idea for the mitts. And does it not form a lovely circle around the leave pattern? When I had finished the mitts, I still had half of my skein left. Mh, now what to do with half a skein? Just knit another pair of mitts?


Als ich mit den Socken fertig war, gefiel mir das Muster immer noch so gut, dass ich es weiter verwenden wollte. Da kam mir die Idee zu den Stulpen. Umrahmen die Rosenknospen nicht wunderbar das kleine Blatt? Übrig blieb ein halbes Knäuel. Mh, was sollte ich damit jetzt machen? Noch ein paar Stulpen? Letztes Jahr schenkte mir meine Freundin Ingrid zum Geburtstag ein wunderschönes kleines Tuch, dass ich sehr praktisch fand und längst noch ein weiteres stricken wollte. Außerdem war da noch so eine Idee (s.u.)...Also kam zu den Stulpen noch ein Tuch dazu.

My friend Ingrid had given me a shawl knit from some left-over Poshyarn. I love wearing it, because it is not such a big shawl. Then I had an idea (see below) and so I decided to use the remainder of the yarn to knit a shawlette. If you think it is too small, buy two hanks and make your shawl as big as you like it.

Meine Liebe zu dem kleinen Muster war noch nicht erschöpft, und ich wollte gern wissen wie es sich in anderen Qualitäten und Stärken verhält. Mit dem Kaschmir-Merino-Garn hatte ich schon ein paar Maschenproben gestrickt, aber noch nichts gefunden, was mir wirklich für eine Damenjacke gefiel. Plötzlich sah ich es vor mir, eine gerippte Jacke mit klassischem XO Muster flankiert von den Rosenknospen, tailliert und mit Armkugel. Ich wußte gleich, das war "meine" Jacke. Ich liebe sie sehr und habe sie in Dänemark zu Ostern (dort sind auch die Fotos gemacht worden) schon sehr viel getragen. Mein Dank gilt Jody, die meine Idee ein Muster in verschiedenen Projekten auszuprobieren gut fand und bereit war gleich 3 Designs auf einmal zu veröffentlichen.

My enthusiasm for the stitch pattern was not exhausted and was reinforced by a designer's interest to explore a stitch pattern in different yarns and objects. I had knit a great variety of swatches with the Cashmere, but was never satisfied. Then one day, after I had finished the shawlette, it came to me. A XO cable flanked by the Rose Bud pattern, tailored body, sleeve caps, zipper. I knew this was perfect for me and I love the cardigan. I have worn it very often during our visit to Denmark earlier this year - where the pics for publication have been taken.

Camelot mitts, key and cuff pattern

Dear readers and knitters,

unfortunately, the cuff pattern chart is missing from the Camelot mitts pattern. Jody from Knotions is currently working on adding it to the publication as well as on including an explanation of the cabling abbreviations. In the meantime, please find below a written version of the cuff pattern and an explanation of the cabling. I hope you'll enjoy knitting these mitts!

New Pattern Release: Parzival

It has been some time, since I have published a new pattern, but the "disaster" with the Irish Beach children sweater inspired me to this beautiful, easy Raglansweater. I have called it Parzival, because Parzival in the folk tale is brought up in the woods and represented as a rather naiv and simple boy, but then his heart is so pure that he is elected to find the holy grail. This sweater is a very easy knit, but the finesse is in the details. I love that it is worked in the round entirely and you only have two seams under the arms, I love the out of the box cuff and I love the material. Both the alpaca-merino blend and the brown color appeal to me very much.

Seit meiner letzten Anleitung ist einige Zeit vergangen, aber nun hat mich das "Disaster" mit meiner Kinderversion von Irish Beach zu diesem Raglanpulli inspiriert. Ich habe ihn Parzival genannt, weil die Simplizität des Pullis mit der Einfachheit und Naivität Parzivals korreliert und gleichzeitig bei beiden die Raffinesse im Detail liegt. Letztendlich ist es Parzivals Reinheit, die ihn zum Gralsfinder macht. An diesem Pulli finde ich besonders toll, dass er komplett in der Runde gearbeitet ist und so nur zwei kleine Nähte unter der Achsel anfallen. Außerdem mag ich dieses etwas andere Bündchen und natürlich das Alpaca-Merino Gemisch und die Farbe. Magknits has closed down

I have just heard the sad news that magknits has not only seized publication but also seized to virtually exist. Patterns that have been published in the magazine in the past four years are not available for download at present.

As you know, some of my patterns have been published in magknits and I am very sorry that they are not available right now. As the closing-down of magknits has come as a surprise to me, I have to give it a little thinking on how to make my patterns available for everyone again. As usual, I will answer all e-mails concerning my patterns, please, don't hesitate to write.

Der Tag heute begann mit einem Schock als ich erfuhr, dass magknits aufgehört hat zu existieren. Nicht nur gibt es keine Ausgaben der online-Zeitschrift mehr, auch die Exemplare der letzten 4 Jahre sind nicht länger zugänglich.

Einige meiner Anleitungen wurden bei magknits veröffentlicht und es tut mir sehr leid, dass diese nun nicht mehr erhältlich sind. Da ich von der Entwicklung überrascht wurde, muß ich erst gründlich darüber nachdenken, wie ich die Modelle wieder zugänglich machen möchte. Wie immer beantworte ich alle Fragen zu meinen Strickmustern per e-mail.

Inzwischen habe ich von google cache gehört und tatsächlich sind dort meine Strickmuster noch erhältlich, allerdings ohne Fotos.
