New Pattern Release: Yolanda

I am very happy to announce a new free pattern release: Yolanda has just been published by Petite Purls.

Yolanda is a tank top for girls. Last year during our holidays in Denmark, my daughter and I visited a yarn shop close to the beach. It was a very lovely shop with shelves of special yarn. We both immediately fell in love with Debbie Bliss’ Pure Silk. While I was still pondering my purchases, my daughter reminded me that she loves knitted tops for summer. That decided it and 5 hanks of Pure Silk made it into my bag.

Well, last summer, fall and winter were a difficult time for me, as the readers of this blog know, and thus knitting, but especially designing were put aside for a while.

In the spring, however, I rediscovered my Danish purchases and a picture of this top popped up in my mind. The light green color of this top renders the dreamy colors you can experience on an early morning on the beach very well. The lower pattern undulates like the beach just after high tide and the daisy pattern reminds me of dunes with its small, precious flowers. So, this top is a tribute to the happy moments of 2009. I hope you will enjoy knitting it as much as I did designing and knitting it.

Heute kann ich mal wieder mit großer Freude die Publikation eines Designs verkünden! Soeben ist Yolanda bei Petite Purls erschienen.

Yolanda ist ein ärmelloses Shirt für Mädchen. Im letzten Jahr, als wir in Dänemark waren, besuchten wir auch ein Wollgeschäft in der Nähe des Strandes. Das Geschäft hatte eine große Auswahl an besonderen Garnen und meine Tochter und ich verliebten uns gleich in Debbie Bliss Pure Silk. Während ich noch überlegte, was ich denn nun kaufen sollte, erinnerte mich meine Tochter daran, dass sie gestrickte Tops liebt. Na, das entschied das und 5 Stränge Debbie Bliss wanderten in den Einkaufskorb.

Wie die Leser dieses Blogs wissen, begann jedoch im Juni letzten Jahres eine schwere Zeit für mich und das Stricken, vor allem aber das Entwerfen von Strickmodellen, trat eine lange Zeit in den Hintergrund.

Im Frühjahr nun entdeckte ich die Tüte mit den dänischen Einkäufen wieder und hatte gleich das Bild dieses Tops im Kopf. Die Farbe dieses Shirts erinnert mich sehr an die pastelig, traumartigen Farben im Frühjahr am Strand in Dänemark, das untere Muster erinnert mich an das wellenförmige Muster des Strandes nach der Flut und das Daisymuster an die kleinen, kostbaren Blümchen in den Dünen. So ist das Shirt eine Erinnerung an die glücklichen Tage des Jahres 2009 geworden.

Selbst wenn ihr jetzt kein Shirt stricken wollt (oder gerade kein Mädchen zu bestricken habt), lohnt sich ein Besuch der Petite Purls Website. Buch basteln

The past few weeks have been very busy and thus this blog post about my daughter’s birthday is a bit late. She celebrated her 12^th birthday in May and we had a party at our home. I liked the idea of fabric-covered Moleskines on wise craft’s blog for the creative part of the party. Instead of Moleskines, I bought nice notebooks at IKEA where I also found lovely fabric. The wonder under was more difficult to get, but fortunately the third shop I went to, had it in stock.

Die letzten Wochen waren ziemlich voll an Arbeit und Events, so dass dieser Blogeintrag zum Geburtstage meiner Tochter reichlich verspätet kommt. Im Mai schon haben wir ihren 12. Geburtstag gefeiert. Auf Wise Crafts blog habe ich die Idee stoffüberzogener Notizbücher gefunden und fand das eine gute Idee für 12 – 14-jährige Mädchen. Statt Moleskines habe ich bei IKEA Notizbücher und sehr schönen Stoff gekauft. Das Vliesofix (deutscher Name von Wonder Under) zu bekommen war etwas schwieriger, aber der kleine Stoffladen im nächsten Kiez hatte es dann sogar von der Rolle.

The ironing took longer than expected, but the girls went outside to play a game of cubb while I was fixing the fabric to the books. They had a lot of fun embellishing their books.

Das Bügeln hat länger gedauert als erwartet, aber die Mädchen haben so lange eine Partie Kubb gespielt. Hinterher hatten sie noch viel Spaß beim Verzieren der Notizbücher.

Here is my finished Evie! I indeed cut the sleeve under the cap and kitchener stitched it back to the cap after taking off what was too much - and it is hardly noticeable!!!

Hier ist meine fertige Evie! Ich habe tatsächlich einfach den Ärmel unterhalb der Armkugel abgeschnitten, das zu viel an Länge aufgetrennt und den Ärmel wieder im Maschenstich angenäht. Wenn man nicht weiß, wo die Naht ist, sieht man sie nicht.

Viktorianische Halbhandschuhe

My husband and I visited this fantastic exhibition by Olafur Eliasson on Sunday and were smitten with it. Originally the plan was to see Frida Kahlo's work, however, 60 - 90 mins of queuing was not our idea of a pleasant Sunday. I am very happy with the turn events took, as Eliasson was a very interesting experience. When we left the museum, we took the chance to take a picture of my Victorian mitts in front of the poster announcing the exhibition.

The mitts were a very fast project knit from the gorgeous Silk-Alpaca blend by Blue Sky Alpacas.

At Handmade the kit for these mitts costs Euros 9.90 including the pattern and a ball of Anny Blatt yarn. It was all very nicely packed in a one-way plastic salad bowl - very cute for a present. However, the instructions are only given for the right hand mitt. It is left to the knitter to figure out how to do the left- hand. Now, this did not really pose a problem, but left a disappointed and annoyed impression with the kit.

Am Sonntag waren wir in dieser sehr schönen Ausstellung von Olafur Eliasson. Ursprünglich wollten wir ja in Frida Kahlo Retrospektive gehen, aber 60 - 90 min Anstehen war nicht nach unserem Geschmack. Ich bin froh darüber, denn Eliasson ist eine sehr interessante Erfahrung. Nach der Ausstellung haben wir meine "Viktorianischen Halbhandschuhe" vor dem Poster zu fotografieren.

Die Halbhandschuhe waren ein ganz schnelles Projekt, das ich aus einer sehr weichen Seide-Alpakamischung von Blue Sky Alpacas gestrickt habe.

Das ich dennoch nicht ganz zufrieden mit mit dem Projekt, liegt an der Strickpackung, die Handmade dafür verkauft. Für 9.90 bekommt man einen Knäuel Anny Blatt Wolle plus Anleitung, sehr schön in einer Wegwerfplastikschüssel verpackt (sieht ganz toll aus für ein Geschenk). Allerdings mußte ich dann feststellen, dass nur die Anleitung für die rechte Hand aufgeschrieben war, wie man die Linke dazu stricken soll, bleibt der Strickerin überlassen. (An der Handfläche sind die Handschuhe 2 r - 2 l gestrickt). Es war natürlich kein Problem die Anleitung für die andere Hand umzuschreiben, aber enttäuscht war ich trotzdem. Für knapp 10.- Euro hätte ich eine ordentliche Anleitung erwartet.
