A fine book

Thanks to my Secret Pal, I have a new book on my shelves - and such a fine book it is. I like all of the designs in A fine fleece. It has been some time since I have enjoyed a knitting book so much as this one. Tichiro had a very good review on her blog and made me put the book on my amazon wishlist. I have not regretted it.
One of the focuses of the book is handspun yarn, thus all the pieces are knit from handspun yarn, but there is always an alternative in a store-bought yarn given. This makes it a wonderful book for both knitters and spinners. The majority of the patterns focuses on cables.
The layout is also very successfully done, the photos show enough details and are still very appealing pictures. The colors and papers chosen for the layout breathe "wellness." There are a few points that narrow the praise and have been discussed on this blog.
It has been very hard for me not to drop all my WiPs and start nearly all of the garments in this book at once. I gave in a little and cast on for a scarf - as you can see.

What is(are) your favorite place(s) to knit?

While I knit almost everywhere, i. e. on the bus, in the car, at home, in a café, the cinema, while queuing, my favourite place is at home, either at the window or on the sofa.

What supplies (besides yarn & needles) make the setting perfect for knitting?

Perfect light and a cup of excellent tea (e. g. Fortnum and Mason), maybe a piece of lemon tart and an interesting audio book/a knitting podcast to listen to or another knitter to talk to.


Dank meines Secret Pals habe ich ein neues Strickbuch: A fine fleece is ein ein wirklich feines Buch. Schon lange hat mir kein Strickbuch mehr so ausnehmend gut gefallen. Fast alle der Zopfmustermodelle sind nachstrickenswert - finde ich. Tichiro hatte eine sehr animierende Besprechung auf ihrem blog und so wanderte das Buch auf meine Amazon wishlist - ich habe es nicht bereut.

Das Layout des Buches gefällt mir auch sehr gut, es hat so etwas von "wellness" und eine sehr ruhige Ausstrahlung. Die Photos sind überwiegend sehr gut, allerdings sind dem Photographen/Stylisten einige böse Fehler unterlaufen, das wurde detailliert hier diskutiert. Dennoch bleibt es ein wunderbares Buch.

Der Schwerpunkt des Buches liegt auf handgesponnenen Garnen, dazu gibt es auch Theorie, aber es ist immer eine Alternative in einer gekauften Wolle angegeben und auch abgebildet. Es war ziemlich schwer für mich, nicht alle Wips fallen zu lassen und für mehrer Modelle dieses Buches anzuschlagen, so habe ich mich auf einen Schal beschränkt.
