Ene's Scarf

A member of my knitting group has knit herself an Ene's Scarf - and I have fallen in love with it as soon as I saw the finished shawl. I could not get it out of my head and really am in need of a big black shawl. So, finally, I gave in and cast on for an Ene's Scarf. The pattern asks to cast on 375 sts! Since I did not want to count 375 sts over and over again - only to be utterly confused around 299, I put in a marker every 50 cast on sts. That made casting on 375 sts a lot easier. Markers are a knitter's best friends when it comes to lace knitting, aren't they? The yarn is Wollmeise sockyarn 100 % Merino, which is a gorgeous yarn even in black.

I made these pin books last weekend. The pages are made from store bought hobby felt, while the cover is made from Wollmeise sockyarn! This was my last skein of her old quality which felts wonderfully in the washing machine.

Here is the how to:

After knitting up the skein, put it in the washing machine and felt the piece.
Then cut a piece of approx. 11 x 18 cm, iron it. Then embellish it with a special machine stitch. Cut a small piece from the felt and attach it to the back.

Afterwards, I cut out a piece of approx. 4 x 3 cm of the hobby felt and embroidered the initials of my friends onto those/my designer name for my own pin booklet. I used the same embroidery stitch to fasten the "name tag" to the front cover.

Now cut three pieces of felt in three different colors, each piece being a bit smaller (approx. 1 cm in length and height) than the one before. And a piece in the same length as the first page (half of the larges inside rectangle) and 2 cm width. Fold it in half and sew along the bottom line. This will be the holder for your stitch markers.
Now, sew the small piece and the three layers of "pages" along the middle to the front cover.

Sew snap fasteners both to the closure and to the small bit on the first page to attach the piece to the first page. You can now put markers on the small piece and just snap the holder to the first page. Fill the pages with pins.

That is what the booklets look like when closed.

Und so sehen sie dann aus:

Kauni

My Kauni cardigan for which I bought the yarn in Denmark last year has finally been finished.

There was a mistake in how the ball was wound right in the middle. I tried to fix it by unwinding yarn as long as it was the wrong way on the cone and then work from there. However, it looks as if still the yellowish part has turned out a bit too dominant.

Since I did not want a boxy cardigan, I did not follow Ruth's instructions, but designed my own (favourite) tailored cardigan with capped sleeves and a zipper up front.
