Silky Eye Pillows

Every now and then, I love to get new ideas and motivation to create things with my children. My latest idea sources are the above books by Amanda Blake Soule, also know as Soule Mama. I love reading books where you can feel a creative mind at work and the joy of motherhood in every line.

As our first project, we chose the Silky Eye Pillows from her second book, Handmade Home. In the book she uses old silk scarves for the covers. However, since we have many silk shawls and colors to paint them at home, we decided to first paint the covers ourselves. Then we sew the inside pillow filled with seeds, chamomille and lavender using old cotton shopping bags and finally sew the silk pillows which cover the herbal pillow. Sewing the silk was a bit tricky, but we managed quite well.

Our first results/Unsere ersten Versuche:

Since we loved making them so much the first time, we made these for very dear friends of us. As you can see, we tried a different technique of painting silk this time as the motives are quite nice, but force you to put the backside with the opening for the cotton pillow onto your eyes .

That sounds like a fun family project, and the results are lovely. Someone seems to be fond of bats. I am too. We saw a few in Hawaii, and I occasionally see them out of my bedroom window when I am reading.

The above comment was me. Rebecca was signed in on my computer. She would agree with everything I said, however
