Greetings from Knit Café

Do you know Greetings from Knit Café? I love that book because of its colors. They always cheer me up. I had these leftovers from a project I did for my LYS last year and for a long time I wanted to knit the skirt from the book for my daughter – not that one really would need a pattern for it. So here is the skirt, that was finally finished in September:

Details:

Source: Greetings from Knit Café

Yarn: leftovers from atelier zitron yarns

Needle size: 4 mm

Garment size: 9 years

Modifications: I worked a hem instead of a rib cuff at the bottom of the skirt.

Kennt Ihr Greetings from Knit Café?

Purple Feather and Fan Baby Cardigan

As many readers of her blog, I found Marie’s baby cardigan very lovely as well and as one of my knitting friends had just given birth to a daughter, I took the inspiration and knitted this cardigan and hat.

As you can see, I chose a Raglan pattern for the cardigan instead of the straight boxy form. Lately, I am in love with Raglans. I love their construction and that you can just do it without any seams. In this cardigan, I even added the button bands and the collor at once, so now picking up of stitches here.

The pattern itself is a slightly altered Feather and Fan stitch.

Details:

Patternname: Purple Feather and Fan Baby Cardigan

Patternsource: inspired by Marie’s cardigan

Yarn: Austermann, 3 balls

Needle size: 3.25 mm

Details:

Designname: Lila Pfauenfederjacke

Quelle: inspiriert von Marie

Wolle: Austermann, 3 Knäuel

Nadelstärke: 3.25

Tuscany

Those of you, who had a close look at the pic of Kris, Ingrid and myself at Stash will have noticed, that I wore my finished Tuscany.

Indeed, the shawl has been finished a long time ago (September) and I have worn it very often. The yarn (wollmeise rosered) is the ideal yarn for this shawl. The color is so brilliant it lights up your day, even a grey November day. The pattern itself is fairly easy and a lot of fun to knit. I could hardly stop working on it, which is rare. Not least because I find working on the same pattern all the time very often tiresome, do I have so many WiPs.

Here are some more pics of my Tuscany.

Details:

Pattern: Tuscany

Designer: Amy Singer

Source: Amy Singer (ed.), No Sheep For You

Yarn: Wollmeise, sockyarn, rosered, 2 skeins (I needed 1.5)

Needle size: 4 mm

Alterations: added two pattern repeats

Designtitel: Tuscany

Designer: Amy Singer

Wolle: Wollmeise, Sockengarn, Rosenrot, 2 Stränge (1.5 verstrickt)

Nadelstärke: 4 mm

Modifikationen: habe 2 zusätzliche Rapporte in der Länge gearbeitet.

London - final

Thank you every one for the kinds words you sent while I was down with the allergy.

Incredible, how busy I am at present and how I just don’t find time to post! I still owe you the final part of my London visit.

On Saturday, Ingrid, Kris and I went to Stash to knit. Stash is a lovely Yarn Shop in Putney with a terrific staff. Nathalie and Michelle, who are co-owners, come across as being primarily knitters and then yarn shop owners. This means, that Stash is a dream yarn shop, not only are they very competent with respect to their yarns, all very exquisite and often rare brands from small producers, but they really share your passion. People who know the average German yarn shop, will know what a difference that makes. Now, I don’t know about the other yarn shops in London, as this was the only one I visited, but I wish it were round my corner here.

Sunday was my last day and the focus was on nostalgia. Ingrid and I took a walk around Putney where I had lived during my study year in London. I took a picture of the house I had lived in,

we had a cup of tea (and knitted) in a new cafe called the Natural Cafe on Putney High Street and spent the afternoon in Kew Gardens. When I had lived in London, I would go there very often. Here are a few impressions:

And what, will you ask did she knit during those four days? Well, I cast on for the Seraphin shawl by Melanie Fenton using the Knitwitches cashmere I had gotten from Ingrid for my birthday.

As the pattern asks for plain stockinette and increases only every second row for a long time, it is actually a shawl pattern that you can knit at knitting group. The yarn is very soft and light, but very warm as well. I enjoy knitting it. When I returned home, I discovered that I had used my 3.25 mm needles instead of the 3.75 as asked for in the pattern. As a consequence, I had to add another 60 rows of stockinette, because I didn’t want to loose the length. The interesting question now is, whether I still have enough yarn or not...
